Duty solicitors are qualified to act either as criminal solicitors in their own right and work for a firm of solicitors or as part of a rota scheme acting in a particular area.
Solicitor firms also have Duty Solicitor arrangements offering general and specialist services in police stations interviews as well as other types of interviews under caution or as part of an investigation that may result in prosecution such as DWP, BIS, Trading Standards, HMRC and Companies Act Investigations.
The rota schemes are a list of solicitor firms which the police access to. From the police station a call will be made to the duty call centre who in turn contact the solicitor next on the rota. These solicitors are attached to one or more police stations and are approved for all types of cases that are under investigation.
You can request your own solicitor or select a solicitor to represent you at the police station.
